Every grain offering is required to have salt in it. This salt added is the "salt of the covenant." Salt is necessary for life and was very valuable. We are prepared with salt, and we are called "the salt of the earth." Are these concepts related?

2 Samuel 22:2-4,31 NKJV
And he (King David) said: Yehovah is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
The God (Elohiym) of my strength, in whom I will TRUST; my shield and the horn (strength) of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; my Savior, You save me from violence.
I will call upon Yehovah, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.
As for God (EL), His way is perfect; the word of Yehovah is proven; He is a shield to all who TRUST Him.
