Biblical Understanding based on the Record of Scripture
The argument that Israel sacrificed the Passover at the end of the 14th in the OT and then ate it on the 15th and that Jesus changed both the timing and the symbols is referred to as the 15th/14th. It argues that the ceremonies of washing feet and taking of the bread and wine at the beginning of the 14th were instituted by Jesus and are a required part of the observance. It also argues that the NT Passover is a new observance with a different meaning than the OT Passover.
Jesus commanded that we partake of the bread in remembrance of Him. He also said that the wine represented His blood of the New Covenant for mankind. The partaking of the wine is a sign of our spiritual covenant relationship with God the Father.
The Abib 15-centricity of the OT does not carry forth into the New Testament. Nothing in the New Testament Passover service or its meaning transfers into Abib 15. By the time Abib 15 actually arrived, Jesus Christ was dead and had already been buried. No event in the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus Christ in the New Testament occurred on Abib 15. However, two new symbols in a brand new ceremony were instituted by Jesus Christ on the evening of Abib 14. These new symbols were the wine and the bread.
