The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. "Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher; "Vanity of vanities, all is vanity." When one reads this passage from Ecclesiastes 1:1-2, you could get the impression that it is saying that life has no meaning, it's all vanity. It gives off a negative, pessimistic impression of why bother. This study will explore the usages of the word that vanity is translated from to see if we can get a better understanding of what Solomon is pointing out.
