Luke 13:5 Unless you repent you too will all perish. Acts 2:38 Repent and be baptized. Repent! Clearly repenting is important,but what is it? There are 2 unrelated groups of Greek words translated as repent and 2 unrelated groups of Hebrew words translated as repent. In the NASB only about 1% of these Hebrew words are translated as repent or repentance. To add to the confusion, the English word repent has changed meaning over the last few centuries. Most of us understand repent to be turning from evil, but that is incomplete in what the words mean. In this study we will look at what repentance means in both the OT and the NT.
